First week so far...

Hey everybody,

Here’s an update from Cape Town. My first week has been absolutely great. I went to a Valentine’s-charity-dinner for an orphanage in Cape Town. The ticket for this dinner was 70 Rand, which is around 7 Euros. This is really cheap for a great night for charity.

I live in a house with 11 other volunteers and interns. There is also a house in Kylemore (which is about an hour away from Cape Town) where another 12 volunteers live. They will come to Cape Town every Friday for the staff meeting and afterwards we’ll hang out. It was great to see everybody in one room; people from Holland, Germany, the UK, the States, Norway and SA of course. In the evening we had a dessert-party at the house to celebrate some friends’ birthdays. I met a lot of friends of the volunteers. The people from South Africa are all really warm and kind!

I went to the Waterfront with the other Dutch girls on Saturday. It was great to explore more of Cape Town. We walked around and I was just amazed by the beauty of the city. You see the Table Mountain everywhere on the background; it’s just such a beautiful site. We went to have some lunch, wondered around the shops and visited the Aquarium. It was a great tourist day.

On Sunday I went to Kaleidoscope church in Cape Town. I think I should explain it as a modern church. It’s not like a catholic service or anything like Taizé. I’ll try to film it one day and than you’ll know what I mean.
After church I just relaxed during the day. Just trying to let the previous days sink in. I went to the beach, which is two minutes away from my house. I have the most amazing view at the house. I love it SO much. You see the Table Mountain on the left, Robben Island is in sight and I have the most beautiful sunset ever. It’s just great to be able to walk on the beach everyday. I can really recommend it to everybody!

I know that it all sounds like a great holiday at the moment, but I can assure you that I will be doing some work over here. It’s just that I’m still being ‘patient’ at the moment. I have a talk with Emelio today (hopefully) and than I’ll get more clarity about the projects that I will be working on.
